Speaking engagements at i58 retreat
Both the Director of Transforming Business, Dr Peter Heslam, and the Director of Enterprise Research, Dr Flint McGlaughlin, are amongst the speakers at a retreat organized by i58 for business leaders and scholars taking place Ponte Vedra Beach in Florida, USA.
The theme of the retreat is 'expressing your calling through business leadership' and it will be held at the spectacular and legendary Sawgrass Marriott golf resort, spa and hotel from Friday 29th February to Saturday March 1st 2008
Sessions will include interviews of inspiring CEOs and explorations of how the contemplative life can be lived out in the midst of pressing schedules, and how you can build your company by building your people.
Despite the spectacular venue, there is no charge to attend this retreat. Instead, participants will be invited to make a free-will donation to cover costs. You just need to find accommodation nearby, as the hotel itself is full.
To register and to receive more information (including accommodation advice) contact Rick Frantz on rick.frantz@meclabs.com. The registration deadline is 18th February.

Social Enterprise Workshop
Social enterprises are springing up all over the place. Creative and entrepreneurial in orientation, they are amongst the most effective agents of change around the world today.
The sectors of society in which social enterprises can be found is on the increase. They include education, micro-enterprise, international development, health care, tourism, recycling, employment bonds and housing. The Social Capitalist awards run by the Fast Company and the Monitor Group reflect this breadth (see here).
The list of award winners reflects something else that is interesting about social enterprises: they are increasing represented in the for-profit sphere. In fact, the boundary between social and commercial enterprise is often becoming blurred.
Within this emerging mix of ideas and initiatives on the border of philanthropy and business, Transforming Business is co-hosting a workshop on social enterprise with Faith in Business, a business group based at Ridley Hall in Cambridge.

Wholeness at Work
Many people claim their lives are becoming increasingly fragmented. Work, family, leisure, community involvement lack a sense of coherence, resulting in increased psychological and relational breakdown. There is, however, a widespread longing for wholeness, a desire to live and work in a way which is integrated and to work for organizations that foster such integration.
How can we discover wholeness for ourselves and create wholeness in the organisations in which we work or which we influence? The business group Faith in Business, convened by Ridley Hall in Cambridge, is holding a weekend conference to address this question. The day is likely to be of special interest to people who work in consultancy, but all are welcome.
Transforming Business will be having input in the programme.

Principles in Business
How can Christian virtue ethics enrich and inform the conduct of contemporary business? That has been the key question of a seminar series on the Principles of Business in which Peter Heslam, Transforming Business' Director, is involved. These one-day seminars are co-hosted by Faith in Business and CABE (the Christian Association of Business Executives). They are practically oriented and are by invitation only. Click here to download a summary of the last seminar, on the practice of the virtues in small entrepreneurial enterprises. Information about the programme for 2008 can be obtained from Dr Richard Higginson on rah41@cam.ac.uk
